Last week, I installed VMware 5.5 Update 2e (which worked fine) and then I installed Site Recovery Manager (SRM) which seemingly went fine. As a third step, I install Site Recovery Array (SRA) and then ran the vSphere client and installed the Site Recovery Plugin. Note that in version 5.5, SRM is not available via the web client, so you must install the vSphere client to access the SRM admin GUI. Anyway, when I went to add an array manager within SRM, I received the error “Unable to find any script (SRA) files. You must install SRAs before adding an array manager”. I scratch my head, I had already installed the SRA software! What was wrong?
Well the answer was quick and simple. It did not even require a reboot of the vCenter server, although I believe this would have resolved the issue.
- Close the vSphere client:
- Exit out of the vSphere client, thus closing the SRM admin GUI
- Restart the SRM services:
- Open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services
- Scroll down to “VMware Site Recovery Manager…”
- Right-click and select the “Restart” menu item
- Retry Adding the Array Manager:
- Run the vSphere client and login
- Goto Home | Site Recovery
- Highlight a Site
- Goto the “Getting Started” tab for that Site
- Click “Add an Array Manager” link which is underneath step 4
That worked and it was a complete guess on my part. The only reason it occurred to me that maybe the services needed to be restarted was because my previous installation of the DR vCenter server had not encountered this particular error, and looking at my notes I noticed that I had installed SRA before installing SRM. So, it seems to me that SRM looks for SRA at startup, and then doesn’t refresh the status. In any case, all is well that ends well.
